Former F1 driver Timo Glock has hailed Max Verstappen's outing at the Nurburgring as an “incredible” achievement as he detailed the information he received over the Dutchman's shock appearance.
The four-time F1 champion got behind the wheel of a Ferrari GT3 car at the famous German track just days after the Miami Grand Prix.
Vertsappen was attempting to have the test outing in private and even had a pseudonym associated with the drive, with 'Franz Hermann' stickers attached to the car.
Glock, who scored three F1 podiums throughout his career, stated Verstappen's outing impressed those who were trackside.
"He wasn't out of the pit box yet when I was already getting all kinds of emails, also from the team with which I authorised my own permit for the Nordschleife,” Glock told the Backstage Boxengasse.
“They were able to follow it well, because they were stationed not too far away from them."
"In the end, he showed incredible things, from what I understood of it. The info I have is that his first or second timed lap was already absolutely top notch.”
Verstappen's only previous experience at the Nurburgring came through the simulator, which fails to capture the true dangers of the menacing track.
No official details about Verstappen's lap time have been released - however, a sub-eight-minute lap time has been rumoured.
Glock added: "Go figure. He got into a GT3 car, but never drove the Nordschleife before.
“Of course he spent a lot of time in simulator, which by the way shows how well you can prepare for something with that.
“Verstappen's talent is obviously not in question, but it was underlined again here. The [reported] 7 min 53 sec he drove is really a top time, especially when you clock it on your second lap already.”
