Giovinazzi summoned before stewards after pitlane incident

Alfa Romeo's Antonio Giovinazzi has been summoned before race stewards after a pitlane incident in which the Italian appeared to have been released in an unsafe manner.

Antonio Giovinazzi will face the stewards after third practice, after being involved in a bizarre pitlane incident towards the end of the session. The Italian appeared to have been given the signal by his mechanics to head out on track. Peeling into the pitlane, Giovinazzi clipped the right rear of Aston Martin's Lance Stroll as the Canadian drove past. Giovinazzi was able to stop the car with minimal contact, with his front wing bouncing back into place after Stroll's tyre hit it. Neither car was damaged, but the stewards have summoned Giovinazzi for an apparent unsafe release. Despite it not being Giovinazzi's fault directly, due to him being given the signal by his team to head out, it's likely the Italian will be given a penalty for the incident. Valtteri Bottas was given a three place grid penalty at the Styrian Grand Prix a few weeks ago, after he was judged to have been involved in an unsafe release from the Mercedes pitbox in practice. Separately, Giovinazzi has also been summoned for allegedly unnecessarily impeding AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly in the final sector a few minutes after the pitlane incident.
