Pierre Gasly has praised the "evolution" that Alpine have been through in the 2023 Formula 1 season. The Frenchman's debut campaign with the squad did not begin in the smoothest of fashions, with his first qualifying session at the Bahrain Grand Prix ending in a P20 result. However, Gasly went on to claim P9 in the race and more recently has achieved three consecutive points finishes from the Miami Grand Prix onwards. There was also a season-best qualifying result of fourth in Spain, though this ultimately became P10 on the grid due to Gasly being handed two separate penalties for impeding. Overall, the 27-year-old is feeling positive about how his relationship with Alpine has progressed throughout the campaign so far.
Gasly: Every weekend we're making a step forwards
"I'm just happy with the evolution we've been showing throughout the last few weekends," Gasly told media, including RacingNews365.com , during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend. "It's still early in the season and I'm still learning about the team every weekend, [and] they're learning about myself. "It's about putting things together and I really feel like, every weekend, we're making a step forward. "It was a very strong lap [in qualifying at the Spanish GP]. I'm always looking further ahead, and when I see Carlos [Sainz] in second less than a tenth away, it really shows we've got potential in the package that we have and the upgrades are working. "So, overall, [there are] a lot of positives to take from this."
