Gasly congratulates Ocon amid 'confusion' over Alpine call

Despite the Monaco Grand Prix weekend being a successful one for Alpine, Pierre Gasly feels that his own race could have been better after being left "confused" by a strategy call from the team.

Pierre Gasly has offered his congratulations to teammate Esteban Ocon after the latter's podium at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, but admits being left "disappointed and confused" by his own race. After being promoted to P3 on the grid following a penalty for Charles Leclerc, Ocon was able to maintain the position in the dry-wet event and clinched his third podium result in F1. Gasly also ended the day in his starting position by claiming P7, yet felt that more was possible had the team opted for a different strategy.

Gasly calls for Alpine to review strategy call

"I'm really happy for the team," Gasly told media, including RacingNews365.com , after the race. "It's a fantastic weekend for us with a podium, so congratulations to the team and to Esteban. "I must say, on my race, I'm disappointed and confused because, when we're running in P3 and going green, and we know the rain is coming, I was in the perfect position to just stay [out] long. "I told [them] on the radio, I wanted to stay [out] long and sort of benefit from the conditions. Then we boxed, and two laps later the rain came. "[We] need to review why we boxed, because there was P3 and P4 on the table for the team and it would have been a couple more points. "But I don't want to share too much frustration. It's still a beautiful day for the whole team with the podium, but we have a couple of things to improve and we'll do it for next time."

Momentum for Barcelona

With the Spanish Grand Prix taking place just days after F1's visit to Monaco, Gasly is confident that Alpine can continue their momentum in Barcelona. "From two races ago in Baku where it was terrible, to having our best weekend [in Monaco], I think it's [down to] quite a lot of things," the Frenchman explained. "[There are still] questions we've got to answer, but the car evolved quite a lot. "We have brought new parts to the package we've got and it seems to bring a lot of performance, so that's positive and [I'm] looking forward [to Barcelona]."
