Franco Colapinto suffered his latest F1 setback during qualifying in Baku amid a crash at the end of Q1.
The Alpine driver's future with the team is far from certain, with Flavio Briatore declaring the fight for the 2026 seat is between the Argentine and Paul Aron.
Colapinto was looking to improve his lap time late in the session before losing the rear of his car into Turn 4.
It cemented Colapinto's position in the drop zone as the red flag was thrown while he was in 16th.
The session marked double agony for Alpine as a mistake for Pierre Gasly at the same corner, just moments before Colapinto's collision, also saw him eliminated at the end of Q1.
Colapinto suffered a crash at the same corner in Baku last year, albeit during free practice.
