Dan Ticktum pulled off a stunning last lap overtake on polesitter Jake Dennis to win the opening race of Formula E's Tokyo E-Prix, while the title fight was blown wide open.
Championship leader going into the race Pascal Wehrlein suffered a disaster, with a remarkable recovery from 16th to fourth having seen Mitch Evans reclaim the title lead by three points.
Wehrlein and former teammate Antonio Felix da Costa made contact mid-race, resulting in damage which forced the German driver to retire.
As for Ticktum, he was one of the first to take Pit Boost which saw him cycle through to the race lead, although was overtaken by Dennis.
Ticktum remained close to the Andretti driver and took his chance with three corners to go on the final lap, with Dennis having suffered a reported technical issue.
It saw the Cupra Kiro driver claim a second career victory, with Dennis and Citroën's Nick Cassidy completing the podium.
With Evans in fourth, Mahindra's Edoardo Mortara completed the top five. Jean-Eric Vergne, Oliver Rowland, Pepe Marti, da Costa and Taylor Barnard completed the top 10.
