The latest F1 news for the 2024 season:

  • Formula 1 Calendar 2024 | The calendar for 2024 has been revealed and will feature 24 Grands Prix;
  • F1 Drivers for 2024 | The Formula 1 drivers for 2024 have been confirmed. The same lineup as 2023 will be retained.
  • Starting from 2024, the former 'Alfa Romeo' will change its name to 'Stake F1 Team'. Alfa Romeo, once a well-known player in Formula 1 before World War II, will now definitively withdraw from the sport. As a result, Stake F1 Team will also adopt a new livery, prominently featuring the green color of the sponsors.
  • In 2024, the former AlphaTauri will also undergo a name change to 'Visa Cash App RB'. The name change aligns with the new identity the team aims to achieve. Visa and Cash App are already partners of Red Bull, but with Visa Cash App RB, they will be the main sponsors.
  • Reportedly, Madrid will pay an estimated 48 million euros annually to organize a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Starting from 2026, they will host 'the Grand Prix of Spain.' Their contract runs until 2035.
  • Lewis Hamilton, who has raced for Mercedes for an impressive twelve seasons, will make the move to Ferrari in 2025.   • After a highly dominant season for Red Bull in 2023, the competition is eager to contend for the championship in 2024. It has been announced that the test days will take place between February 21 and February 23 in Bahrain. Which team will emerge as the strongest in this showdown?
  • Max Verstappen won the first Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain with a lead of approximately 20 seconds over his teammate, who finished second. The Dutchman delivered incredibly consistent stint times, surpassing the competition. Verstappen broke Lewis Hamilton's record for the most consecutive points scored in Formula 1 with this victory in Bahrain. Currently, the Dutch driver has scored 1030 consecutive points. Additionally, Carlos Sainz finished impressively in third place after a strong race.
     
  • During the 2024 Saudi Arabia GP, Max Verstappen won the race and clinched his 100th podium, joining F1 legends like Räikkönen, Prost, and Alonso. Vettel holds third place with 122 podiums, Schumacher second with 155, and Hamilton leads with 197. Verstappen's dominance this season should propel him closer to the top 3 in all-time podium finishes.
  • Because of the illness of Carlos Sainz, the Ferrari reserve driver Oliver Bearman replaced the Spaniard for FP3, qualifying, and the race in Saudi Arabia. He became the youngest Ferrari driver ever at 18 years of age. Bearman qualified 11th and finished the race in 7th position, earning him the title of Driver of the Day.
  • The Australian Grand Prix was an unprecedented spectacle. Early in the race, Max Verstappen retired due to a brake issue. Later, Lewis Hamilton also retired due to a mechanical problem. In the final lap, his teammate George Russell crashed heavily after Fernando Alonso braked earlier than usual for a corner. Later, the Spaniard received a 20-second time penalty and three penalty points on his super license. The GP was won by Carlos Sainz, who drove flawlessly throughout the race. This is an incredibly impressive feat considering Sainz's recent appendicitis.
  • The start of the Japanese GP was highly chaotic with a crash between Daniel Ricciardo and Alexander Albon in the first corners of lap one. This resulted in a red flag, leading to a restart approximately half an hour later. The Red Bulls controlled the race and finished neatly in first and second, with Max Verstappen as the convincing winner. Carlos Sainz impressively finished on the podium, thus securing a podium in every race. There was a fierce battle in the midfield for the final point, which was won by the home hero Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese driver impressively secured another point for RB and now stands at 7 points in the standings.
  • The weekend in China was full of excitement, with a red flag during the first practice session due to a fire on the track and another red flag during qualifying following a crash involving Carlos Sainz. Fortunately, the Spaniard was able to complete the qualifying session nonetheless. During the race, the safety car was deployed twice, bringing the field back together. However, several drivers were involved in incidents, and Valtteri Bottas experienced mechanical issues, resulting in three drivers being unable to finish the race. Additionally, the FIA issued penalties to five drivers during this race weekend, including super license penalty points and time penalties. Home hero Zhou Guanyu finished the race in fourteenth place.
  • In Miami, Lando Norris achieved his first F1 victory! The Brit drove a fantastic race and was able to pull away from Max Verstappen, who was behind him, with each lap after the safety car. This enabled Norris to be the first to cross the start/finish line after a series of 15 podiums without a win. Additionally, Esteban Ocon scored the first point of the season for Alpine this weekend, and Leclerc finished on the podium after an impressive performance.
  • In Emilia-Romagna, the battle for the win between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris became incredibly intense. A gap of eight seconds was gradually reduced by the Brit during the final stages of the race. Verstappen narrowly finished ahead of Norris by just 0.725 seconds. As a result, the Dutchman also achieved a new record, having the highest win percentage on the grid with 30.73%.
  • Charles Leclerc managed to win his home race, the Monaco Grand Prix, from pole position. After a severe crash in the first lap at the back of the field, a red flag was issued, allowing drivers to change tires. Ferrari, among others, decided to change tires at that point, complying with the regulations so they wouldn't need to stop again. Leclerc convincingly won the race and was very emotional when he crossed the finish line. Especially after the mechanical and strategic misfortunes he experienced when starting from pole position in 2021 and 2022 (and not winning then), and also because he couldn't share this moment with his father, who passed away.
  • The Canadian GP was an unprecedented spectacle due to the tricky and changing weather conditions. No fewer than three drivers had a chance at victory: Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and George Russell. The trio showed incredible race pace, but ultimately, Verstappen came out on top. Additionally, there were five retirements, including Sergio Perez, who is under significant pressure for not getting past Q1 during qualifying in Monaco. As a result, both Alpines impressively scored points, and hometown hero Lance Stroll finished in seventh place.
  • The Spanish GP saw a lot of on-track battles, with Lando Norris and Max Verstappen fighting for the top spot. Similar to Imola, Norris gradually closed the gap towards the end on Verstappen, but fell just short of securing the victory. Sergio Perez had a challenging weekend, finishing eighth, while both Alpine drivers impressively scored points for the team.
  • The Austrian GP ended in tears for Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. The drivers fiercely battled for the lead throughout the race. In lap 64, they made contact while braking into turn three, resulting in punctures for both drivers. This forced Norris to retire from the race, while Verstappen finished fifth. As a result, George Russell capitalized and claimed victory. Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz followed Russell on the podium, with the Haas drivers finishing impressively in 6th and 8th place.
  • The race at the iconic Silverstone circuit was an unprecedented spectacle! The entire race was thrilling as it was uncertain who would seize the victory in tricky, changing weather conditions, where the right strategy was crucial. Norris, Verstappen, and Hamilton all had a chance at winning, resulting in an exciting battle. Ultimately, Lewis Hamilton came out on top and won at Silverstone, bringing forth plenty of emotions. Besides the battle between the top teams, Nico Hülkenberg impressively finished in sixth place, just like in Austria.
  • The Hungarian GP will be talked about for a long time. Verstappen was often heard on the radio and was very frustrated with his team's strategy. Additionally, he also had a race incident with Lewis Hamilton. Perhaps the most discussed moment was Lando Norris having to give up his first position to Oscar Piastri due to team orders. Will this decision cost Norris in the drivers' championship?
  • McLaren came back strongly from the summer break, allowing Lando Norris to win the Dutch GP with a commanding 22-second lead. Verstappen finished second and was highly dissatisfied with his car. Despite a strong start, where the Dutchman took the lead, he was quickly overtaken by Norris, who then gradually pulled away.
  • McLaren was the clear favorite to win in Monza, but against expectations, Charles Leclerc managed to win the Italian Grand Prix. Unlike the other teams, Ferrari opted for just one pit stop, which ultimately proved to be the right choice under the watchful eye of the Tifosi. The celebration in Italy was unforgettable and spectacular!
  • After Norris qualified fifteenth, his chance to close the gap in points to title rival Max Verstappen seemed impossible. However, the Brit finished ahead of the Dutchman in fourth place. Oscar Piastri impressively won the race after keeping Charles Leclerc, who ultimately finished second, right behind him for much of the Grand Prix. Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz fought hard for the final podium spot, but this ended in a major crash, which was later deemed a racing incident.
  • The Singapore GP saw a dominant performance by Lando Norris. The Brit won by over twenty seconds ahead of Max Verstappen, who impressively finished in second place. In the final lap, Daniel Ricciardo managed to take the fastest lap from Lando Norris. Verstappen thanked him over the radio at the end of the race, as this would make a difference in the battle for the world championship.
  • At the start of the US GP, Verstappen squeezed inside Norris, causing them both to struggle out of turn one, allowing Leclerc to take the lead. The Monegasque driver took first place and drove a very dominant race with his teammate Sainz in second. Later in the race, Norris was faster than Verstappen, and they fought for the third position for several laps. Eventually, Norris overtook the Dutchman, but it was off the track, resulting in a penalty and causing him to miss out on third place. This was a much-discussed moment of the race. Additionally, Liam Lawson impressively finished ninth after starting nineteenth, and Franco Colapinto also managed to secure one point.
  • The Mexican Grand Prix delivered plenty of excitement due to the much-discussed incidents between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, which resulted in a twenty-second time penalty for the Dutchman. Additionally, Liam Lawson battled fiercely with Sergio Pérez, with the Mexican driver angrily responding over the team radio. Franco Colapinto also received a penalty due to contact with Liam Lawson. In the end, there was plenty of action, and Carlos Sainz secured a convincing victory in the Mexican Grand Prix, earning valuable points in the Constructors' Championship.
  • In Brazil, there was an enormous amount of rain, resulting in tricky conditions for the F1 drivers. The qualifying session was even postponed due to the bad weather and was eventually held on Sunday. Ultimately, we were treated to a spectacular GP with a lot of action and overtakes. Max Verstappen drove an incredibly strong race and won in São Paulo with a gap of nearly twenty seconds, despite starting from seventeenth. Additionally, both Alpine drivers impressively finished alongside the Dutchman on the podium.
     

Changes in the 2023 F1 season

Formula 1: a sport that has long been known for developments. This is no different anno 2023.

Some changes in the 2023 F1 season compared to 2022:

  • At the end of 2022, four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel hung up his helmet. Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso replaced his seat with the Aston Martin team;
  • Eight-time race winner Daniel Ricciardo returns as a reserve driver at his beloved Red Bull Racing, but later also as an AlphaTauri driver to replace Nyck de Vries;
  • Mick Schumacher will also no longer be seen on the grid in 2023, taking a reserve role with Mercedes' team;
  • Over the winter, Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto was shown the door and appointed Frederic Vasseur as his replacement;
  • AlphaTauri secures Dutchman Nyck de Vries as Yuki Tsunoda's teammate. Due to disappointing performance, he was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo even before the first half of the season was over;
  • Logan Sargeant made his Formula 1 debut at Williams and became the first American in Formula 1 again since 2015;
  • Rookie Oscar Piastri becomes Lando Norris' teammate at McLaren as a replacement for Daniel Ricciardo;
  • The Las Vegas Grand Prix has been added to the 2023 calendar and Formula 1 drivers will run their first Grand Prix there on 19 November.

The 2023 F1 season

The 2023 Formula 1 season is in full swing and we are already past the halfway point. All European Grands Prix are over and Formula 1 will descend on Singapore on the weekend of 15 to 17 September, where another evening race awaits us.

So far, plenty has happened during this Formula 1 season. All the latest F1 news about it can be found on this page. To make it easy, a few notable moments in a row (in no particular order):

  • Red Bull Racing has won all F1 Grand Prix so far (until the Italian Grand Prix), with Sergio Perez taking two wins (Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan) and Max Verstappen taking 12;
  • This run of victories was broken at the Singapore Grand Prix, with Carlos Sainz taking victory;
  • Max Verstappen breaks a new record by taking 10 consecutive wins. In doing so, he beats Sebastian Vettel who previously held the record with nine wins in a row;
  • One Grand Prix later in Japan, Max Verstappen took victory again. Red Bull Racing also wins the 2023 constructors' title. This is already the sixth for the team from Milton-Keynes;;
  • After the Qatar sprint race, Max Verstappen is officially the 2023 world champion. This is his third world title;
  • Rookie Nyck de Vries had to leave the F1 after the British Grand Prix due to disappointing performance at AlphaTauri. Daniel Ricciardo replaces his seat;
  • After driving two races for AlphaTauri, Daniel Ricciardo broke his hand and was replaced by reserve driver Liam Lawson. He was on the grid at the Dutch Grand Prix, the Italian Grand Prix, the Singapore Grand Prix and the Japanese Grand Prix. The Kiwi also earned two points;
  • Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, is a familiar face on the podium during the 2023 season, achieving a number of second and third places;
  • Former team principal Otmar Szafnauer left Alpine after the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. Alpine is also not achieving the results they had envisaged. Pierre Gasly at least manages to grab another podium at the Dutch Grand Prix and the sprint race in Belgium;
  • Ferrari's performance is disappointing in the 2023 F1 season, partly due to the challenging SF-23, but the drivers and team also miss out on a lot of points. Since the Italian Grand Prix, the team seems to have picked up a bit;
  • McLaren started the 2023 F1 season poorly. Later, there seemed to be an upward trend. Lando Norris achieves second place several times and rookie Oscar Piastri is also a regular on the podium. He also cashes in his pole position during the sprint race in Qatar;
  • Alexander Albon is performing very well with the Williams team so far and, unlike his teammate, has already managed to bring in 27 points. He is currently (after the Japanese Grand Prix) on P13 in the standings. He is also driving some good qualifying and can often be seen in Q3. In the Netherlands, for instance, he started from P4 and in Italy P6;
  • This year's Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was cancelled due to bad weather conditions. The only Italian Grand Prix run this year was at the Monza circuit;
  • Logan Sargeant earned his first point in his home race, the United States Grand Prix. The American crossed the finish line in twelfth place, but due to Leclerc and Hamilton's disqualifications after the race, he finished in tenth. This makes him the first American to score points in Formula 1 in thirty years. Michael Andretti was the last American to score points in F1 before Sargeant.
  • Daniel Ricciardo made a comeback after his wrist injury, allowing him to compete in the United States Grand Prix. He didn't have a strong race there and finished fifteenth. However, in the Mexican Grand Prix, the Australian driver qualified in fourth place. During the race, Ricciardo finished in seventh, earning six valuable points. This result is of great significance in the battle for the Constructors' Championship.
  • The Grand Prix of Brazil was a tremendous spectacle. At the start, things went wrong for Alexander Albon and Kevin Magnussen, causing both drivers to retire and leading to a red flag. After the restart, the race could be completed without further interruptions. There were numerous mechanical issues, which, following the crashes of Albon and Magnussen, resulted in a total of six DNFs (Did Not Finish). The climax of the race was incredibly exciting due to the battle between Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso for the third position. With a mere difference of -0.053, the Spaniard secured an impressive podium finish.
  • The exceptionally low track temperature added a lot of excitement. There was little grip on the track, leading to spins at the start for both Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. Additionally, there were many braking errors, and three drivers could not finish the Grand Prix (DNF), namely Lando Norris, Yuki Tsunoda, and Nico Hülkenberg.
  • The result of the penultimate Grand Prix in Las Vegas has intensified the battle in the Constructors' Championship. Mercedes now leads by just four points over Ferrari in the standings. Furthermore, Aston Martin is now only eleven points behind McLaren in the Constructors' Championship. This sets the stage for an exciting finale in Abu Dhabi.
  • The season finale, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, promised an exciting battle between multiple constructors. The gap between Ferrari and Mercedes before the GP was very small, with only four points difference for the second place in the constructors' championship. Charles Leclerc had an excellent race pace and could easily maintain the second position throughout the race. His teammate, Carlos Sainz, finished outside the top ten. With Russell finishing third and Hamilton in ninth place, the second position in the constructors' championship would be secured by Mercedes. Leclerc gave his all during the race and strategically collaborated with the team to stay ahead of Mercedes. However, this proved insufficient as Mercedes finished above Ferrari with a three-point difference.
  • Williams was only seven points ahead of AlphaTauri in the battle for seventh place before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. With a remarkable qualifying performance from Yuki Tsunoda in sixth position, it seemed to get exciting, especially since Albon and Sargeant qualified fourteenth and twentieth. The Japanese driver had an excellent race and was awarded Driver of the Day. Unfortunately, his eighth position at the finish line was not enough to overtake Williams for the seventh place in the constructors' championship. As a result, the AlphaTauri team finished three points behind the British team.
     
  • A fierce battle took place among Fernando Alonso, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and Carlos Sainz for the fourth position in the drivers' championship. Prior to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, there were only four points between these four drivers. However, Sainz couldn't compete for points during the Abu Dhabi GP, dropping out of the battle for P4. Despite his twelve-point deficit, it seemed that Leclerc would win the battle by finishing in second place. With Norris in fifth, the Brit was only one point behind the Monegasque in the championship. However, due to an overtaking maneuver on Yuki Tsunoda by Fernando Alonso towards the end of the race, the Spaniard finished seventh in the race. This resulted in him being tied on points in the constructors' championship with Charles Leclerc. Nevertheless, due to more podium finishes, Alonso finished fourth in the championship. The gap between the fourth and sixth positions in the championship was only one point!
  • With a dominant performance, Max Verstappen convincingly won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It was a surreal season for the Dutchman, resulting in an emotional Verstappen on the podium. A total of eighteen records were broken by the Dutch driver in the 2023 season.
