Former Red Bull chief given start date for new Audi F1 role

Stake's new team principal has an official F1 start date after leaving Red Bull ahead of Audi's F1 arrival in 2026.

Stake have officially confirmed that former Red Bull sporting director Jonathan Wheatley will take up his new duties in time for the Japanese Grand Prix. Wheatley announced last year that he would be leaving his long-term position at Red Bull to move to Hinwil to become Stake team principal in time for Audi's arrival in 2026. After serving the usual period of gardening leave, Wheatley will officially join the team on Tuesday April 1st, and thus be in position for the Japanese GP at Suzuka that weekend.  For the opening rounds, chief technical and chief executive officer Mattia Binotto will serve as de facto team principal until Wheatley's arrival. Stake heads into the 2025 season with an all-new driver line-up, in the shape of veteran Nico Hulkenberg and reigning FIA Formula 2 champion, Gabriel Bortoleto.
