Former F1 winner takes swipe at 'superior' Schumacher

The duo were teammates for the 1997 F1 season.

Former F1 race winner Giancarlo Fisichella has revealed a cold relationship with former Jordan teammate Ralf Schumacher. The duo teamed up at the Silverstone-based outfit - which has become Aston Martin - for the 1997 season. Fisichella would go on to drive for Sauber, Benetton, Renault, Force India and Ferrari, securing three race victories with the French manufacturer when partnering Fernando Alonso during his title-winning seasons in 2005 and 2006. But whilst his teammate relationships often flourished, a fractured season for Fisichella alongside German Schumacher was inflamed early in the season when the pair collided at the Argentinian Grand Prix.

"There wasn't a good relationship with Ralf Schumacher, in 1997 at Jordan," Fisichella told Corriere Della Sera. "He felt superior despite the fact that I beat him [in the points standings]. "In Argentina, I was second and he was third. He touched me [and caused me to] spin-off, and after the Grand Prix he made a joke: 'Oh well, I'll buy him a pizza'. From then on, it was all uphill with him."
