Former F1 driver: Norris the strongest driver in the midfield

Lando Norris has put in several impressive performances during the first races of the 2021 season, so much so that he has been hailed by a former Formula 1 driver as the strongest in the competitive midfield pack.

Lando Norris is currently the most impressive driver in the midfield, according to former F1 driver Timo Glock. The Briton has made very few mistakes during the first three race weekends of the 2021 Formula 1 season, with his performances putting him in third in the drivers' championship as well as earning a podium finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Norris is also outperforming new McLaren teammate Daniel Ricciardo and all of this has greatly impressed Glock. "The midfield in Formula 1 continues to be very competitive. For me, Lando Norris is clearly THE man in this part of the field," Glock told Sky Sports. "He's delivering extremely well at the moment, doing a very strong job, racing well and showing strong overtaking manoeuvres. "He makes few mistakes, uses the package he has very well and is giving his teammate Daniel Ricciardo a mammoth task at the moment." However, Glock believes that Ricciardo - who is in his first season with McLaren following two years at Renault - will eventually adapt to the car, meaning that there is still a lot more to come in his battle against Norris. "We have already seen that with [Ricciardo] at Renault. He had his little problems there at the beginning, but over time he has implemented it very well," Glock explained. "That's why we'll have to wait and see how this inter-team duel develops at McLaren. In general, McLaren is very, very strong at the moment and I'm also extremely happy for [team principal] Andreas Seidl, who is doing a really great job and leading McLaren back on track towards third place." Whilst Glock expects McLaren's strong form to continue at the forthcoming Spanish Grand Prix, the former driver also believes that Ferrari will continue to show increased competitiveness. "You can't ignore Ferrari, who have made a good leap compared to last season," Glock - who raced in F1 for six seasons between 2004 and 2012 - said. "Both drivers are at a very high level, but in the battle for the midfield positions I personally see McLaren ahead in Barcelona."
