Former F1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi believes that George Russell's start to 2023 has offered his best chance to outclass Lewis Hamilton at the end of the season. Russell finished ahead of Hamilton in the 2022 Drivers' standings after taking his first victory at Brazil, becoming only the third teammate to do so in the seven-time World Champion's career. Fittipaldi thinks Russell can repeat the feat again given his experience within the team, believing that he is a "better fit" for their current form. "For sure, Russell is more aggressive now," he told MyBettingSites . "He is more experienced now and the Mercedes team knows him much better now. It seems like he is becoming a better fit for the team now. "This is his best chance to get ahead of Lewis Hamilton and show that he has the level. It is going to be very interesting to see what happens. His situation is quite similar to Sergio Perez in my opinion. “He will be driving 110 per cent now and be aggressive to go past people.”
Fittipaldi: Hamilton will get better
Hamilton has been vocal about his thoughts on the W14, claiming that engineers did not listen to his input when designing the car . Fittipaldi believes Hamilton needs to adapt more to the car, before he gets back to his previous level of outclassing his teammate. He added: "The beginning of last season was very similar for Lewis Hamilton. He seems like he has some problems with adapting to the new car and the new rules. "He is not able to get the maximum of this car at the moment. Judging from the outside he needs to adapt and then he will be back to his previous level. "He is so good, as we all know, but he can definitely improve in every single kilometre. No one can take away his great talent but for some reason the car is not a perfect fit for him and he needs to solve that problem and adapt.”
