FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has stated that F1 will again have multiple race directors during the 2025 season. According to Dutch journalist Erik van Haren, who writes for De Telegraaf , the boss of the governing body confirmed the decision when speaking in Madrid. Outlined in an X post, Van Haren quotes Ben Sulayem as saying: "There will be fresh blood, and more than one race director." Whether that means current race director Rui Marques will not continue in his role is unclear. However, if he does remain - as expected - it is not yet known who will work alongside him. It will not the the first time this has happened. In the wake of the contentious season finale in 2021, and ex-race director Michael Masi leaving the role, F1 operated with multiple race directors the following year. The position was split between Eduardo Freitas and Niels Wittich, but after his controversial calling of the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix, the former was stood down. The latter held sole responsibility for the role until November last season, when he left the position with immediate effect ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, at which point F2 and FIA F3 race director Marques assumed the mantle.
