The FIA has removed a piece of astroturf from the Hungarian Grand Prix circuit that contributed towards Yuki Tsunoda's big qualifying crash.

In Q3 at the Hungaroring, Tsunoda was in ninth place looking to improve his time as he ran slightly wide exiting the long right-hander of Turn 5.

The RB racer ran over a strip of artificial grass which then helped to propel the car at high-speed into the concrete barrier, destroying the left-hand side of the car.

Tsunoda was ordered to rest after completing some, but not all of his media duties, going onto take 10th fastest as team-mate Daniel Ricciardo took ninth once the session was restarted.

In response, on Sunday morning, the FIA's race director Niels Wittich issued a new set of race director's notes, confirming that the astroturf had been removed, in favour of a 4m wide strip of gravel where Tsunoda had gone off.
