The #50 Ferrari made the perfect start to the 92nd running of the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours, as polesitter the #6 Porsche dropped to third.
It was a clean start throughout the field but it was Ferrari who made a strong start in the Hypercar category, with the #3 Cadillac having fallen to fourth. Three Ferrari Hypercars were in the top five come the end of lap two.
The #50 took the lead on the opening lap from fourth, whilst the #51 Ferrari moved into second on the fourth lap.
In LMP2, #14 AO BY TF made a great start from pole position and retained the lead, ahead of the #65 Panis Racing car which started in second. #28 IDEC Sport lost a spot and lowered to third in the opening laps.
Similarly to in LMP2, the LMGT3 polesitter remained in the lead following the start. #70 Inception Racing led the lowest class, ahead of the #66 JMW Motorsport car and the #77 Proton Competition car.
No crashes took place in the opening 15 minutes, although rain is expected to hit shortly.
