Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur has conceded there is no understanding of why the Scuderia found the consistency it lacked in Spain at the Canadian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc failed to score at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, having struggled to only 19th in qualifying with Ferrari's upgrade package. Teammate Carlos Sainz had qualified as Max Verstappen's closest contender yet was unable to keep position in the race as the SF-23 struggled with consistency across the various tyre compounds. But in Canada last weekend, despite qualifying struggles in the rain, both drivers made their way through to finish fourth and fifth, outpacing Red Bull's Sergio Perez across each stint to finish ahead of the Mexican. Asked if the team had understood why there was such improvement at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Vasseur told media, including RacingNews365.com : "No. "But we are developing the car in this direction to try to get consistency to have something a bit easier to drive. "Step by step, we are going in the right direction. But you can't draw a conclusion after one event in one way or the other."
Ferrari waiting for green light
There was pre-race panic around Leclerc's car with a number of mechanics working feverishly on the Monegasque's underfloor on the grid. Explaining the reason for the concern, Vasseur explained: "We had to ask for the FIA's approval to change the plank.
