Ferrari say they will have a 'short-term fix' in Canada this weekend to the problem that caused Carlos Sainz to grind to a halt in Sunday's Azerbaijan Grand Prix. In a nightmare Grand Prix for the Scuderia, Sainz pulled off on lap 8 with a hydraulic issue while running fourth, while teammate Charles Leclerc retired from the lead on lap 21 with smoke billowing from the rear of his F1-75. With only one week and considerable travel involved between Baku and this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, teams have been hard-pressed to bring updates to Canada, and Ferrari implied that a longer-term solution to Sainz's problem would have to wait until after the Montreal event. "Hydraulic components from Carlos' car have already been examined," read a post on Ferrari's official Twitter page. "A short-term fix is in place for Canada, while work is on-going on mid/long-term solutions."
Post-mortem on Leclerc's engine to begin
Ferrari added that an investigation into Leclerc's spectacular power unit failure in Baku would begin on Wednesday. "Charles' engine arrives at the factory [on Wednesday, and] an initial assessment should be completed by the evening," read Ferrari's post. Having suffered two engine failures in the past three Grands Prix, Leclerc is likely to be on his third engine of three permitted for the season in Montreal. With two-thirds of the season still left to run, the Monegasque is almost certain to take a grid penalty for excessive component usage in the coming races.
