Former F1 driver Felipe Massa has backed Ferrari to find a “missing point” to launch itself into title contention.

The Italian squad has not claimed an F1 championship since the 2008 season when it prevailed in the constructors' fight.

Ferrari has largely been unable to challenge for titles in the turbo-hybrid era that began in 2014, with Mercedes and Red Bull sweeping the end-of-year accolades.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have both won races this year, leading to Massa, who started 139 races for the Scuderia, praising its recent form.

“They are improving the car, they did some good laps at the last tracks, good races,” Massa exclusively told RacingNews365.

"I really hope they can do some nice racing through to the end of the season.”

Massa hopeful for 2025 Ferrari F1 title fight

The team is currently under the direction of Fred Vasseur who took over team principal duties at the start of the 2023 campaign.

It will undergo another major shift next year when Lewis Hamilton joins alongside Leclerc on a multi-year deal.

As Ferrari targets its first F1 championship in almost two decades, Massa is hopeful it will have the pieces in place to contest in 2025.

“Ferrari has shown they have a good car, they have a good team,” the Brazilian stated.

“Maybe [they are] still missing something to be on the perfect level, to fight for the championship.

“I really hope they find that missing point soon so they can fight for the championship, especially next year.”
