Fernando Alonso has noted his “fantastic” experience so far with Adrian Newey, who worked trackside with the Aston Martin team for the first time at the recent Monaco Grand Prix.
Newey joined the Silverstone-based squad earlier this season but made his first public appearance in his new colours at the historic event in May.
The Briton is focusing on the 2026 F1 challenger, which is being designed under a new set of technical regulations and will incorporate a power unit built by Honda.
Newey chose to be trackside at Monaco as he continued to integrate with his new team, and Alonso was left impressed by how he carried out his duties.
“Yeah, it was fantastic,” Alonso told the media, including RacingNews365.
“I think the way he sees things on the car, even statically in the pit lane or at the grid, also in the garage, spotting some things that we could have done better or do better in the future.
“His presence in the meeting room is always special.”
Alonso highlighted that Newey also had an impact in the engineering meetings, as existing team members were wary of the 66-year-old spotting remarks that would be untrue.
“I think, not intimidating, but the level of the team was higher thanks to his presence because everyone was more focused, more into the details of the car,” he said.
“People who were talking in the meeting knew that they could not say anything too far from the truth because he would spot it.
“So, I think that was great to witness, and I hope next year with more races that he will come, we will keep learning from him and getting better as a team.”
