Lando Norris is out of the Dutch Grand Prix following a late power unit failure on his McLaren, throwing Oscar Piastri a huge advantage in the F1 drivers' championship fight
The British driver was second behind his team-mate at Zandvoort before the Mercedes power unit in the back of his MCL39 gave up.
He exclaimed over team radio: "I got smoke coming from in the cockpit, I think. I smell something funny."
It has cost the Briton 18 points, and his deficit to Piastri has grown from what would have been 16 points to 34.
It triggered a third safety car of the afternoon after oil was left through much of the middle sector.
Max Verstappen inherited second place, with Isack Hadjar claiming a sensational maiden podium in his Racing Bulls machine.
