F1 team boss: Mick Schumacher like his father

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree in the Schumacher family according to the AlphaTauri F1 team boss Franz Tost. Discussing the qualities of a top driver, the Austrian said Mick has the same approach as his father, Michael.

Mick Schumacher has the same approach to racing as his seven-time Formula 1 World Champion father according to AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost. The Formula 2 world champion will make his F1 debut in 2021 for Haas and Tost named both Mick and Michael Schumacher when discussing what it takes to be a top driver. "A driver must first have passion," Tost told F1 Insider. "He must be disciplined and also innovative. A driver should always ask himself the questions: ‘What can I do better?’ ‘How can I be better than the others?’ "Michael Schumacher was like that; Sebastian Vettel was like that. Incidentally, I also see this approach with Mick Schumacher." High praise indeed. And despite the widespread belief that the car is the determining factor in success, both Tost and Mick share the view that, ultimately, the driver is decisive. “The driver is the one who gives the engineers the right input to make a car faster and faster,” Tost added. “The successful drivers are always with a team longer because after some time they are able to have a car built according to them. “This is a big part of the art that few master. The driver is always the key to success.” Mick hasn’t even completed one race in Formula 1 yet and is already being lined up for a move to Ferrari in the near future. This sort of speculation will be nothing new for the rookie of course, and if, as Tost says, the young German is like his father, few would bet against him adding his own piece of F1 history to the Schumacher legacy.
