F1 takes precautions amid qualifying weather concerns in Barcelona

With rain having fallen during FP3 at the Spanish Grand Prix, a precaution has been taken regarding the tyres provided to drivers.

Drivers will be allocated an additional set of Intermediate tyres before the start of qualifying amid weather concerns at the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix. With rain falling during FP3 on Saturday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, a Race Director's note released by the FIA ahead of the track running has confirmed the decision based on the weather forecast. The note from Niels Wittich reads: "Based on the weather forecast from the official weather service provider, an additional set of Intermediate tyres will be made available to each driver before the start of qualifying." This means that drivers will have five sets available to them rather than the usual four. While Friday's Free Practice sessions took place in dry and warm conditions, forecasts have suggested that rain could continue to affect the region on Saturday and Sunday.
