Formula 1 has confirmed that the Chinese Grand Prix will not take place in 2023, owing to the difficulties presented by the Covid-19 situation in the country. F1 Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Domenicali, previously stated that race could be in doubt due to the Covid restrictions and high case rates in the country. It was set to be the fourth round of the record-breaking calendar next season , having last appeared in 2019 for the F1 1000th race. The cancellation this now leaves a four-week gap to fill between the Australian and Azerbaijan Grands Prix. In a statement F1 has said that it is "assessing alternative options to replace the slot on the 2023 calendar and will provide an update on this in due course."
