Former Mercedes and Williams technical chief Paddy Lowe has made a return to Formula 1 as a sponsor of the Stake F1 squad.
Lowe spent nearly three decades working in Grand Prix racing, with stints at Williams, McLaren before becoming executive director (technical) in a job-share with Toto Wolff at Mercedes ahead of the 2014 season.
He stayed for three seasons, departing in 2017 for a return to Williams as Chief Technical Officer and also became a shareholder.
However, the machines produced under his leadership were flawed with both the 2018 and 2019 cars uncompetitive, with the FW42 of 2019 proving late to testing and then illegal after FIA inspection.
He left Williams in mid-2019, and had kept a low profile, focusing on engineering projects, and has joined Stake as a sponsor through his Zero Petroleum company that specialises in carbon-neutral synthetic fuels.
