Ex-F1 star joins Button and Raikkonen in NASCAR

Kamui Kobayashi will become the latest ex-F1 driver to join the NASCAR Cup Series grid and will take part at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.

Kamui Kobayashi has been announced as a NASCAR Cup Series driver for a one-off event, which will be the Japanese driver's debut in the series. The Le Mans 24 Hour winner will participate in round 24 of the season, the 'Verizon 200 at the Brickyard', which takes place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on 13th August. Kobayashi, who is a driver and the current Team Principal of the Toyota World Endurance Championship team, will continue his long association with the Japanese marque by competing in the one-off race. The two-time World Endurance Championship winner will drive the #67 23XI Racing entrant, which has also been used by racer and stunt performer Travis Pastrana. Fellow Formula 1 drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button have taken part in NASCAR Cup Series races this season, with both drivers appearing at the Circuit of the Americas for round six of the championship. However, both are taking part at select races this season, and only Button is due to race against Kobayashi at Indianapolis. The Briton will also be racing at the Chicago Street Course as part of a three-race deal with the Rick Ware Racing team .
