Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa, who raced for McLaren during the 2006 F1 season, stated he would bet all his money on Max Verstappen winning the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. With Red Bull's RB16B looking like the class of the F1 field, it took everything Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton hadto keep the formidable-looking Verstappen at bay in Bahrain. De la Rosa however believes the characteristics of the Imola race circuit will yield a different result. "I expect Verstappen to be very, very strong in Imola all my money would go for him there," De la Rosa told the F1 Nation podcast. "I'm not saying for the championship, I'm just saying in the short term." De la Rosa also elaborated on why he would pick the combination of Verstappen and Red Bull, when they were just beaten by Mercedes and Hamilton at the season opening Grand Prix in Bahrain. "I think that the Red Bull will be very strong in San Marino," De la Rosa continued. "There's some things about Bahrain that are really interesting. The sector two, they (Mercedes) were still very slow compared to the Red Bull and I think that the sector two at Bahrain is more the usual, you know, medium high speed corners of Imola." With rumours swirling around that Mercedes themselves may introduce a new floor for their 2021 challenge r, things will certainly be interesting as the F1 circus descends upon the Imola race track on April 9, 2021.
