Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has issued a statement on social media clarifying his involvement in the ongoing investigation into Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner. Red Bull GmbH is investigating Horner after allegations were made about his behaviour by an employee, however the nature of the complaints have not been confirmed. Horner met with an external specialist barrister sent by Red Bull on Friday last week to discuss the matter, and later attended the shakedown of the RB20 on Tuesday this week. A German media outlet reported that Ecclestone, a friend of Horner, had advised The Red Bull team boss to step down or resign having learned of the facts in the investigation.
Ecclestone has since taken to social media to clarify the rumours, in a post which was also reshared by wife Fabiana Ecclestone, the FIA Vice President for Sport. “To clarify reports by newspapers that I had urged or suggested that Christian Horner should step down from his position in Red Bull is entirely UNTRUE,” said Ecclestone.
