De Vries set for second F1 practice outing with another team

Nyck de Vries made his F1 weekend debut at the Spanish Grand Prix, having gotten behind the wheel of the Williams FW44 for Free Practice 1, and it seems that this won't be the last of the Dutchman's FP1 outings in 2022.

Nyck de Vries looks set to be given another Free Practice 1 outing at an F1 weekend in 2022, with Mercedes planning for the Dutchman to drive their car later in the season. The reigning Formula E Champion was behind the wheel of the Williams FW44 for FP1 at the Spanish Grand Prix, and could get another opportunity there, given that teams must now complete two mandated young driver sessions during the campaign. This may not happen, though, as Dave Robson - Head of Vehicle Performance at the Grove-based squad - indicated over the weekend that there were no further plans to run de Vries in their car again in 2022. However, the driver is expected to take part in at least one practice hour for Mercedes at some stage in the year, the Silver Arrows have confirmed to RacingNews365.com . It is currently undecided at which race weekend this may happen.

How de Vries felt about debut FP1 outing

De Vries seemed to fare well during his FP1 debut at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, during which he sat in for Alex Albon. The 27-year-old finished ahead of fellow Williams driver Nicholas Latifi on the timesheets, and clocked a total of 28 laps in the session. Speaking afterwards, de Vries admitted that he felt he could have achieved more, but was overall satisifed with the job he did. "I was very pleased with my job, but I just know where we are with both cars," he explained to media, including RacingNews365.com . "I know that I went out very early on the C3 [tyre]. I had quite a lot of traffic from Valtteri [Bottas] in Sector 3. "I just felt like there was more in there, and also knowing what we have on both sides. Everyone is obviously bringing upgrades, but I think there was more to come. "But from my personal side, it was okay."
