Ricciardo receives expensive McLaren road car ahead of F1 team debut

New McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo might not have raced the team’s 2021 F1 car yet but has already been gifted a beautiful road vehicle from the company.

Daniel Ricciardo - who joins the McLaren team after two years racing for Renault - is now the proud owner of a stunning McLaren 765LT. The Australian posted photos alongside his new car on Instagram and understandably looked very happy with the present. With 765 bhp clean on the hook, the McLaren 765LT can reach speeds of 330mph thanks to its V8 4.0L engine. Other impressive features include its ability to hit 330 kilometres per hour, not to mention that the vehicle goes from 0 to 100 kph in 2.8 seconds. Anyone interested in purchasing one for themselves might need to start saving though - the car typically sells for around €300,000. Whilst Ricciardo now has a very fast mode of transport for the roads, it has yet to be seen how he will fare on the track when he makes his debut for the McLaren Formula 1 team. The British squad seem positive about their chances though, and commented on Ricciardo’s Instagram post about his road car: “Wait til you see the MCL35M…” Ricciardo will be hoping to take the impressive form he displayed in his final year with Renault during the 2020 season over to his new squad. The 31-year-old gave the French team its first podium since 2011 when he finished in third place at the Eifel Grand Prix, before going on to repeat the result at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix later in the year. Renault went on to gain fifth place in the constructors’ standings following a tight battle with McLaren and Racing Point for the coveted third spot. McLaren emerged victorious in this fight, a promising sign for Ricciardo as he makes the move to the papaya team. The Australian will line up alongside Britain’s Lando Norris when the 2021 Formula 1 season kicks off in Bahrain on 28 March.
