Isack Hadjar caused a red flag 10 minutes into the second practice session at Monaco after clashing with the barrier.
The Frenchman, who is partaking in his maiden F1 event from Monaco, hit the barrier at the Turn 10 chicane which punctured his Pirelli tyre.
Hadjar stopped on the track before the Racing Bulls team communicated with him to bring the car back to the pit lane.
Hadjar managed to do so and after the debris was quickly cleared away by the marshalls, the session got back underway.
The 20-year-old, who has impressed in his appearances with Racing Bulls so far, ended the FP1 session in 13th place.
