The Netherlands experienced significant rainfall in various areas on Monday afternoon and evening, including Zandvoort, home of the Dutch Grand Prix.

A photograph taken at Circuit Zandvoort showed a stream running across the track, accompanied by considerable sediment.

NH News also reported that a Delft University of Technology student team was due to test their hydrogen-powered race car on the circuit Monday night. That test run was cancelled, on account of the access roads to the circuit being flooded.

"Our car runs on hydrogen, but it can't handle that much water," student Renzo Bootsma explained with a laugh. "A pity though, because we were going to do a longer test drive for the first time tonight."

F1 Academy was due to commence the first of two days of testing at the track at 09:00 local time on Tuesday morning.

However, the start of the first session was pre-emptively delayed by 25 minutes to allow for additional sweeping, if required, to clear the circuit.

The three-hour session will run until 12:25 local time to prevent any impact on track time.
