Christian Horner names 'standout' car ahead of F1 season-opener

Pre-season testing in Bahrain saw the F1 teams roll out their new challengers for the year ahead, with one catching the eye of Red Bull's Christian Horner.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has picked out a “standout” car from the current F1 grid when comparing the similarities between the challengers.

The upcoming F1 season is the last under the current set of technical regulations ahead of a major switch-up next year.

Development gains have become increasingly difficult as car concepts have converged amid the ageing regulation cycle.

However, Horner believes the Ferrari SF-25 car differs the most from others on the grid in terms of how it has sculpted its new machine.

“Into this cycle of regulations, it’s clear that the cars have converged and they look very, very similar,” Horner told media including RacingNews365.

“I think probably Ferrari is a standout as probably being a differentiator.

“That’s inevitable, marginal gains are going to be there. Every surface on our car is different to last year, it just looks similar because it’s a similar philosophy.

“You can see other cars have converged with that. That’s what is going to make the racing so tight this year, that some cars might suit some circuits better than others.”

F1 fans will be 'biggest winners' from 2025 season

McLaren has been labelled by many as the favourite heading into the new season following its constructors' title win last year and its strong pre-season test.

However, the season is expected to be highly competitive with multiple teams being put forward as title contenders.

Horner has predicted F1 fans will be the biggest winner from the year ahead as the Red Bull boss predicted there could “easily” be eight race winners throughout the campaign.

“It’s all going to be about extracting the maximum amount of your platform out of your package and getting it right on the day,” he said.

“The biggest winner out of that would be the fans and the followers of the sport.

“You could quite easily have eight winners this year, and you know, some curveballs in there as well.

“It could really be pretty open.”
