Carlos Sainz has admitted he was uncertain after signing for Williams that it was the right choice for his F1 career.

However, after spending the opening 14 rounds of the current campaign with the Grove-based squad, the Spaniard has concluded he is content with his decision.

Sainz was forced to find a new drive on the grid for 2025 after Ferrari signed Lewis Hamilton on a multi-year deal.

Having had interest from various teams, Sainz penned a deal with Williams despite the team sitting almost last in the constructors' championship.

It has enjoyed a strong uptick in form this year and currently sits fifth - although Sainz's team-mate Alex Albon has scored a bulk of the points.

As he continues to get up to speed at the team, Sainz has acknowledged that all doubts he had have been eliminated.

“I definitely felt last year when I took the decision, Williams was ninth in the championship and there was less certainty that maybe Williams was the right choice in my career,” Sainz told media including RacingNews365.

“Now a year on, I’m very confident of the decision I took.

“I’m very glad, looking at the progress the team is showing and the momentum we’re building into 2026.”

Sainz penned a long-term deal with Williams that will take him into the sport's new era next year.

The squad has outlined its long-term ambitions to return to the forefront of the F1 grid, a journey Sainz is keen to remain a part of.

“Looking at everything that’s been done in the team into 2026, 2027, 2028 which is why I came to this team,” he said.

“I didn’t come to this team for the results of 2025; I came for the potential of 2026, 2027, 2028.

“The more I see what’s being done and the more I am with the team, the better it looks.

“At the same time, there are a lot of things to work on and to improve as a team.

“There is a very long list of things that we are trying to get through and work on.

“But I’m happy with that decision and I think we just need to keep our heads down.

“At some point also, the results of 2025 will give momentum going into 2026.”
