Carlos Sainz has warned that Formula 1 is a "different monster" to IndyCar, following rumours surrounding a switch for Alex Palou.

Palou recently sealed his fourth IndyCar title and his third in a row, triggering rumours that Red Bull could be interested in the Spaniard partnering Max Verstappen.

The IndyCar champion's management quickly denied the rumours; however, a move to F1 for Palou was still discussed on media day at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Several drivers, including Sainz, were asked if Palou would transition well into F1 should he ever make the switch.

A regular point was raised across the board but explained in the most detail by Sainz, who highlighted the significant difference between F1 and IndyCar.

Sainz has been hugely impressed by how Palou has dominated the North American series, but is unsure how he would do in the pinnacle of motorsport.

"I can only say what I see in IndyCar is that he's doing an incredible job," Sainz told select media, including RacingNews365

"F1 is a completely different monster, both as a driver, as a car, but also as a formula it's very different, I think, from anything else.

"So it's impossible to predict how good he would be in Formula 1. I can only say that in IndyCar, he's just doing things incredibly.

"He must be doing things really, really well to dominate the way he's dominating in such a competitive category."
