The FIA has confirmed that qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix has been postponed until Sunday.
Having originally been scheduled for 15:00 local time, it was initially delayed at least 45 minutes, but was subsequently pushed further back on multiple occasions.
With sunset in Sao Paulo set for 18:21 local time, F1 was unable to find a suitable pocket within the torrential weather conditions to run the session.
It has yet to be confirmed when the session will take place on Sunday, but the hour-long session must be concluded three hours prior to the start of the grand prix.
This article will be updated once a start time is confirmed.
FIA statement on Sao Paulo Grand Prix postponement
The Qualifying for the São Paulo Grand Prix is postponed.
The decision was taken due to the lack of visibility caused by the level of rain we have experienced in the past few hours. There is a lot of standing water on parts of the circuit which renders conditions unsafe.
As much as we would all like to see competition on track, the safety of drivers, team members, volunteers, officials and spectators is our main priority.
A decision on a start time for Qualifying tomorrow morning will be taken as soon as possible.
