Binotto: Ferrari have recovered a lot of speed

Ferrari struggled with throughout the entire 2020 Formula 1 season due to their power unit, but Mattia Binotto believes things are heading in the right direction in 2021.

There is good news for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz after Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto reveals the team has recovered a lot of the speed lost last year. The Scuderia had their official team launch on Friday, and the Italian is optimistic things are heading in the right direction in 2021. "I think that last year, the main issue was the speed on the on the straight lines, not only the power, but both power and drag," Binotto told RacingNews365.com and other members of the media. "We've worked a lot both on the power unit and the car aerodynamics to reduce the drag of the car. "Based on our simulations today, based on what we can see in terms of power output and the drag of the car from the wind tunnel I think that we recovered quite a lot of speed on the straight lines. So I'm expecting the speed not to be such an issue as it was. "We hope to be competitive, but we will know it only when in Bahrain. I think it's always relative to what the others are doing. But we believe that our car is certainly more efficient compared to the one we had last year."
