Berger has no doubts: Verstappen is ripe for the title

After two races the championship battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen is separated by just one point. Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger believes this could be the year the Red Bull driver takes that next step forward.

Gerhard Berger believes Max Verstappen is in prime position to take the 2021 F1 drivers' championship this season thanks to Red Bull's great start to the season. After two races the score is 1-1, with both Max and rival Lewis Hamilton taking home a victory and second place finish so far. The difference in the standings is Hamilton's fastest lap at Imola, which gave him an extra point in the standings. Nevertheless Berger is convinced Red Bull have put together a car that could push Verstappen past his Mercedes rival. "He [Verstappen] is ripe for the title because he has the skills, the speed and the right tools for it," Berger told the German RTL. "Honda have managed to come close to the engine performance of Mercedes. "Adrian Newey has built a very fast car for the Red Bull team that is very good right away." The battle between Verstappen and Hamilton will resume in less than two weeks when Formula 1 travels to Portimao for the Portuguese Grand Prix on May 2.
