The Haas F1 team has announced Oliver Bearman will take part in driving duties on Friday at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, replacing Kevin Magnussen.

Magnussen has been sidelined after suffering from an unknown illness in Brazil.

The Dane arrived in Sao Paulo celebrating his best result of the season, having picked up a seventh place finish last weekend in Mexico.

However, he will miss the opening day of action in Brazil, with his participation beyond Friday still in question.

“Haas F1 Team driver Kevin Magnussen will not participate in Friday’s track running at the São Paulo Grand Prix after suffering with sickness,” Haas confirmed.

“Official reserve driver Oliver Bearman will take over driving duties. The team wishes Kevin a quick recovery and will provide a further update in due course.”

Magnussen will also be sidelined for the sprint race on Saturday - Article 37.1 of the sporting regulations states “no driver may start a sprint session or the race without taking part in at least one (1) practice session”.

However, as qualifying is counted as a practice outing in the rulebook, Magnussen will be eligible to return on Saturday to qualify for the grand prix, should he feel well enough to do so.

Bearman has already replaced Magnussen once this season, standing in for the 32-year-old at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix while he served a race ban.

Bearman will join Haas in a full-time role next year, partnering Esteban Ocon who will arrive from Alpine.
