Baku lock up ends Hamilton record streak

Lewis Hamilton came so close to taking the lead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix before a lock up after the restart into the first corner saw him tumble down the order.

Sir Lewis Hamilton lost more than just championship points when he finished 15th at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, as the Mercedes driver's three-year streak of finishing in the points came to an end. Hamilton and Mercedes have been the dominant outfit for Formula 1 for some time, but the team suffered a rare non-points scoring outing in Baku after the world champion's lock up after the late restart and Valtteri Bottas struggled across the weekend. The last time that Hamilton failed to score was at the Austrian Grand Prix in 2018, when the driver retired on lap 64 with a fuel pressure issue, a 54-race streak of points scoring finishes. That race was also the last time that Mercedes as a team scored nothing for the weekend, as Bottas also retired early due to a gearbox failure caused by hydraulic issues, only the constructor's third double retirement since returning to F1 in 2010.
