Aston Martin has announced Felipe Drugovich will stand in for Fernando Alonso during the first free practice session at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Drugovich has been Aston Martin's reserve driver for several years and has taken part in a number of free practice sessions with the Silverstone-based squad.
His FP1 outing at the Hungaroring is the second of the year, following a drive in Bahrain.
However, it is possible that Drugovich's services could be called upon deeper into the race weekend as Alonso is suffering from an injury.
Alonso drove to 17th place at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend but has been suffering from muscular pain in his back ever since.
The two-time champion has elected to sit out the session before a further evaluation later today.
“In the days following the Belgian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has been managing a muscular injury in his back,” read a team statement.
“As he continues with treatment this morning, he has chosen to sit out of FP1.
“Felipe Drugovich will drive in FP1 alongside Lance Stroll.
“A decision will then be made on Fernando’s participation in FP2 and the remainder of the weekend in due course.”
Alonso has not missed a race as a full-time driver since the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix, where he opted to participate in the Indianapolis 500.
