Mercedes has confirmed Kimi Antonelli will return to the cockpit of its F1 car this weekend at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Antonelli will jump behind Lewis Hamilton's car for the session with Mercedes hosting its second of two mandatory FP1 rookie outings around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez. It gave Antonelli his first practice outing at the Italian Grand Prix last month, one day before confirming him as Hamilton's replacement for the 2025 season. However, his session last just 10 minutes as a spin into the barrier at the final corner ended his outing early. Antonelli will be one of several rookie drivers taking part in the opening practice session of the weekend. “I’m looking forward to driving in FP1 and playing my part in helping the team make a good start on track this weekend,” Antonelli said. “It is a new circuit for me and one I have been working hard to prepare for. The altitude makes it unique and it’s a challenge I’m excited to experience. “I want to thank for the team for giving me this opportunity to contribute.”
