Alpine issue statement on Alonso's move to Aston Martin

After it was confirmed that Fernando Alonso will join Aston Martin in 2023, Alpine have shared their thoughts on the Spaniard's move.

Alpine have issued a statement following the announcement that Fernando Alonso will join Aston Martin in 2023. Alonso – who is in his second season with Alpine after returning to F1 with the team in 2021 – is set to replace Sebastian Vettel at the British squad, having signed a multi-year contract. In light of the news, Alpine have wished Alonso well. "We wish Fernando the best for his future in Formula 1," the message posted on the team's social media reads. "Fernando has always been, and always will be, part of the Renault and Alpine family and we’re proud and privileged to have shared so many on-track moments together."

News on Alpine's 2023 driver line-up in "due course"

Alpine are looking forward to continuing to work with Alonso for the remainder of 2022, and added that news on their line-up for next year will follow in time. "We look forward to finishing the remainder of the 2022 season with Fernando in blue, and we'll keep pushing to the maximum until the final lap in November," the statement continues. "The team will announce its driver line-up for the 2023 Formula 1 season in due course." Current driver Esteban Ocon is contracted to the team until the end of 2024, leaving just Alonso's seat vacant.
