Oscar Piastri will be released by Alpine to enable him to join McLaren earlier than expected. The two teams were discussing the contractual situation surrounding Piastri since McLaren announced him as their 2023 driver earlier this year. So far Piastri has tested in the MCL35M at Paul Ricard, the car that has also been given some testing mileage in the hands of Colton Herta, Alex Palou, and Pato O'Ward. Now the Australian is set to test with the team during the post-season Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi according to Team Principal, Andreas Seidl. "I can confirm that an agreement with all parties was reached which enabled us to put Oscar in our car last week in Paul Ricard," said Seidl to media, including RacingNews365.com . "[This agreement] will enable us to then officially start working with Oscar on Monday after the last race in Abu Dhabi and put him in the current car at the Young Driver Test."
Young Driver Test to help Piastri prepare for F1 debut
Seidl says the official Young Driver Test will enable Piastri to give his initial reactions to the team on his feeling with the current car, and familiarise himself with their processes. He added: "Kilometres nowadays in F1 cars are quite limited for drivers with the regulations that are in place, especially when it comes to running the current car. "Therefore, it's a really important test to get an initial read from Oscar's side on our car and give him an initial feeling, and make sure we're getting him ready for Bahrain next year."
