AlphaTauri fined after de Vries near miss in British GP Qualifying

Nyck de Vries was only 19th in Qualifying at Silverstone, but was referred to the stewards over a pit-lane incident.

AlphaTauri have been fined €5000 after they committed an unsafe Formula 1 release with Nyck de Vries in British Grand Prix Qualifying. During a wet/dry Q1, de Vries was released into the path of the oncoming Oscar Piastri and was forced to swerve into second lane to avoid contact. Mechanics were working nearby with de Vries immediately complaining over the radio that it was an unsafe release. The stewards agreed with that assessment, fining the team the €5,000 for the infringement, with the fact that the pit-lane was damp also taken into consideration. de Vries qualified 19th fastest but will start 18th as Valtteri Bottas is set to be disqualified for lacking a fuel sample while Piastri managed a career-best third on the grid.
