Alonso sheds new light on Formula 1 departure

Although Fernando Alonso has had a love-hate relationship with Formula 1 in recent years, the Spaniard has no regrets over how he left the sport back in 2019.

Although Fernando Alonso is happy Formula 1 fans were excited to hear about his return to the sport, the Spaniard made it clear he has no regrets regarding his departure back in 2018. The 39-year-old is back after sitting out the last two seasons, as his time at McLaren came to a close in disappointing fashion. The team's lack of pace, along with Alonso's growing disillusionment with Formula 1, played a part in him taking a step back. Now Alonso is gearing up for a return in 2021 with the newly rebranded Alpine team, but the Spaniard has no regrets about venturing into other series over the past two years. "False," Alonso told Marca when asked if he regretted leaving F1. "I managed to win the WEC, LeMans twice, Daytona and I finished my first Indianapolis 500 and the Dakar." Although Alonso will turn 40 in July, it looks as though age isn't a concern as he looks to be back in Formula 1 for the long haul. "True," Alonso answered when asked if he will stay in F1 for an extended period. However the Alpine man isn't expecting to be fighting at the front of the grid when the 2021 season begins in Bahrain in March. "False," Alonso responded when asked if there's a chance he'll win in his return to the sport.
