Fernando Alonso has detailed Lance Stroll will soon be a “team leader” at Aston Martin once he calls time on his own career in F1.
Alonso, 43, is currently contracted until the end of the 2026 F1 campaign.
The two-time world championship is the most experienced driver in F1 history and acknowledged he likely does not have many years left in his career.
Alonso joined Stroll at Aston Martin in 2023, with Lance being the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll.
Detailing his relationship with the younger Stroll compared to his previous team-mates, Alonso stated the Canadian has a more open approach.
“I think Lance is very open always as I am with him,” Alonso told media including RacingNews365.
“I am in the final part of my career and I try to help him as much as I can because he will be leading the team very soon.”
The duo is only one of two line-ups that have been unchanged from 2024 as it looks to recover from a disappointing campaign.
Alonso suggested Stroll's security as being part of the Aston Martin family makes him easier to work with.
“This relationship was very strong since day one,” he said. “I know Lance for many, many years. I know Lawrence as well.
“Lance is part of the team. His loyalty and his way of working with the team is maybe a little bit different than any other team-mate that I had in the past.
“They could go somewhere else in the following year or they were a little bit more reluctant to share things or to work together into the future.
“While Lance is part of the Aston Martin family, so this makes things easier for everyone.”
