Alonso explains how Aston Martin differ to his past F1 teams

After racing for the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Alpine in the past, Fernando Alonso will embark on a new chapter of his F1 career in 2023 with Aston Martin. The Spaniard admits that it is a different scenario to his previous experiences.

Fernando Alonso admits that joining Aston Martin in their current situation is "very different" compared to his previous experiences with other F1 teams. The Spaniard has signed to the squad on a multi-year contract following a two-season stint at Alpine. Prior to this, Alonso raced for the likes of Ferrari and McLaren during his extensive Formula 1 career. When asked at the launch of Aston Martin's 2023 car how coming into the British outfit has proved different to those he drove for in the past, Alonso acknowledged that the changes in the sport have influenced how teams now have to work. "I think nowadays Formula 1 is a bit different," Alonso told media, including RacingNews365.com . "We don't have the freedom to develop the car in many different ways. There [are] a lot of restrictions in the regulations, there is less creativity. "So it's all about details. It's all about quality in every aspect of the car, [and] hard work."

Alonso: Aston Martin have self-confidence

While Aston Martin may not have the championship-winning past that some of Alonso's previous teams had, he feels that the squad still have a vast amount of confidence about what they can achieve in the future. "Everyone here is humble. Everyone is hungry for success," the two-time World Champion explained. "Maybe they didn't experience fighting for wins regularly or championships or a podium every weekend, but they trust in themselves. They have self-confidence and they know that they can achieve that, but they never did yet. "This is very different compared to any other team that I joined in the last few occasions, where maybe they had success in the past and they were just in a comfortable position. "They were just fourth and they were happy with fourth. They were fifth and they were happy with fifth. If they were seventh it was a celebration."
