Fernando Alonso has claimed the first Madrid Jarama-RACE Circuit Award in recognition of his work for Spanish motorsport and mobility.
The two-time F1 champion was judged unanimously by the jury as the winner of the new special award by the Spanish automobile federation.
He received the honour from the president of RACE and FIA Senate President, Carmelo Sanz de Barros and Ignacio Fernandez, director of the Madrid Jarama-RACE Circuit.
The award has been created to recognise Spanish personalities but also athletes who add to the history of the nation's motorsport and mobility scene.
As explained by Spanish automobile federation, Alonso was judged as the winner for his “exceptional contribution to the promotion of motorsports in our country, as well as for his close relationship with Madrid Jarama-RACE Circuit which has been reinforced thanks to his involvement in various events and activities held at our facilities”.
The Madrid Jarama-RACE Circuit is situated just 32km north of the Spanish capital and has been owned by the Royal Automobile Club of Spain since 1981.
It has hosted the F1 Spanish Grand Prix on nine occasions, the most recent of in 1981.
