Fernando Alonso has confirmed he will make a decision about his F1 future in the coming weeks.

The Spaniard suggested in Bahrain that he would need to decide whether to continue in the sport next season before evaluating a potential switch to Mercedes to replace Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton.

Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack suggested Alonso would be committing to a decision in the next few weeks and speaking to media including RacingNews365: "It's fair for me to not delay the too much, for the team and for the options they need to pick up."

Alonso reveals Aston Martin 'tweaks'

Alonso put in a fine performance to qualify fourth for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, slower only the Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

But Aston Martin slid backwards in the opening race of the season in Bahrain and Alonso revealed changes have been made to combat repeat issues.

"In Bahrain, we were definitely faster over one lap compared to the long-run pace," explained the two-time world champion.

"It seems we are faster here on new tyres than on the long-run pace, so there is a trend, it seems this year we are struggling on race pace.

"We made a few tweaks on the set-up and we will have the answer [Saturday] night, but let's hope we have a stronger race than Bahrain."
