Fernando Alonso has criticised Liam Lawson following the F1 sprint race from the Circuit of the Americas.
Alonso labelled the RB driver as an “idiot” over team radio as they battled for position during the shorter race in Austin, Texas.
Their fight allowed the Alpine of Esteban Ocon to slip through for position, with Lawson and Alonso ending the race in 16th and 18th respectively.
The duo were then spotted in an animated conversation after jumping out of their cars following the race.
Speaking to DAZN after the 19-lap event, Alonso took aim at Lawson's driving tactics.
“Too much action, maybe, from Lawson, who has six races to prove things,” Alonso stated.
“I don’t think it’s the best way, but it’s his career at stake and not mine.”
Lawson was called up to replace Daniel Ricciardo at RB for the remainder of the season, with his COTA outing his first in F1 in over 12 months.
Despite having just five grand prix starts to his name, the New Zealander is believed to be under consideration for a Red Bull promotion for 2025 in place of the struggling Sergio Perez.
Lawson will start the US Grand Prix on Sunday from the back of the grid regardless of his qualifying position this weekend after taking on a fresh power unit for the event, the components of which fall outside the penalty-free quota.
