Team Principal Frederic Vasseur says Valtteri Bottas' experience at Mercedes will help Alfa Romeo make a step towards the front of the Formula 1 grid. Since their return to F1 as a constructor in 2019, Alfa Romeo are yet to finish higher than eighth in the championship standings, and have scored just three points so far this season. Their driver line-up of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi has remained the same for the last three seasons, but that will change when Bottas replaces the retiring Raikkonen in 2022. "With Valtteri, we bring to Hinwil a strong team player with experience at the sharp end of the grid," explained Vasseur. "Valtteri has been an integral part of a team that rewrote the history books and he has four Constructors' world titles to his name: he is the right driver to help Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN make a step forward towards the front of the grid." Alfa Romeo will be the third team Bottas has raced for since his F1 debut in 2013. He previously drove for Williams before becoming Lewis Hamilton's teammate at Mercedes in 2017. Bottas only had one-year contracts during his time at Mercedes, but he has signed a multi-year deal with Alfa Romeo which Vasseur says will give the team stability. "The multi-year deal bringing him to us gives both Valtteri and the team the stability we need to build our project at a crucial time for Formula 1," continued Vasseur. "We are excited for what the future holds in store."
